The three rules

Every photo, every ad, every use.

We designed Huggu around three rules. Every photo we publish, every ad we run, every video we share — Huggu follows all three. So should every use.

1

AWAKE

Huggu is for moments when your baby is awake, alert, and resting on a firm, flat surface. Not designed for sleep.

2

ON BACK

Always use with your baby on their back on a firm surface. Never propped, never face-down, never on a bed or in a cot.

3

SUPERVISED

You must be present in the same room. Huggu pats — but you parent. Never a substitute for your presence.

Voluntary safe-use statement printed on every product and on every piece of our marketing:

"For supervised awake-time comfort. Not designed as an infant sleep product."

Always follow Red Nose Australia's safe sleep guidelines — rednose.org.au

Button battery hazard — remote control

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

WARNING: Button and coin batteries can cause severe or fatal injuries within 2 hours or less if swallowed or placed inside any part of the body due to chemical burns and potential perforation of the oesophagus.

If a battery is suspected of being swallowed or inserted into any part of the body, immediately seek medical attention. Call the Poisons Information Centre Australia on 13 11 26 (24/7). In an emergency, call 000.

About the Huggu remote battery

  • The Huggu remote control contains one (1) CR2025 3V lithium coin / button battery, pre-installed.
  • The battery compartment is secured by a captive screw and requires a small screwdriver to open — it is not accessible without a tool.
  • The remote must be kept out of reach of children at all times.

When replacing the battery

  • Use the same CR2025 type only.
  • Insert in the orientation shown inside the battery compartment (matching + and − symbols).
  • Replace the compartment cover and tighten the captive screw fully.
  • Cover used battery terminals with clear tape, keep separate from other battery types, and dispose at an approved battery recycling point.
  • Keep used batteries out of reach of children at all times — they remain hazardous until disposed of.

Lithium rechargeable battery — plush

The Huggu plush contains an internal lithium-ion rechargeable battery inside the motorised palm unit. This battery is sealed within the motor unit and cannot be removed by you. It is recharged via the supplied USB-C cable.

Do not:

  • Pierce, crush, cut, or puncture the plush body or motor unit.
  • Expose to fire, sparks, or open flame.
  • Expose to temperatures above 60 °C / 140 °F (do not leave in a hot car or near a heater).
  • Leave Huggu unattended while charging.
  • Charge using anything other than the supplied USB-C cable.
  • Continue using the product if you notice swelling, deformation, unusual heat, or any unusual smell from the motor unit area.

If you notice any warning signs

  1. Stop using the product immediately.
  2. Disconnect from charging if connected.
  3. Move to a non-flammable surface away from people and pets.
  4. Contact us at support@huggu.com.au.
  5. If there is fire risk, contact emergency services on 000.

Supervised use only

Huggu is designed for supervised awake-time comfort use only. Not intended for infant sleep.

Do not:

  • Leave your child unattended with Huggu.
  • Place Huggu in a cot, bassinet, co-sleeper, or any unattended sleep surface.
  • Use Huggu as a sleep aid, sleep training device, or co-sleeping companion.
  • Place Huggu on top of or wrapping around your child.

Always remove Huggu before placing your child in their sleep environment. Always follow Red Nose Australia safe sleep guidelines: rednose.org.au

Entanglement hazard

Keep this product away from cords, straps, or other materials that could create entanglement hazards.

The Huggu plush itself contains no cords or strings. The USB-C charging cable supplied with Huggu should never be in reach of a child during use. Charge Huggu when separated from your child.

Suffocation hazard — packaging

To avoid danger of suffocation, keep the plastic bag this product was packaged in away from babies and children.

Do not:

  • Use the bag in cribs, beds, carriages, or playpens.
  • Allow children to play with the bag.

The bag is not a toy. Dispose of packaging immediately after opening.

Age grading & testing

Suitable for children aged 0 to 36 months.

Huggu has been designed, independently safety-tested, and labelled specifically for supervised use with children in this age range. Independent safety testing is performed by QIMA, an accredited testing facility.

Tested against these standards

  • AS/NZS ISO 8124-1Mechanical and physical properties
  • AS/NZS ISO 8124-2Flammability
  • AS/NZS ISO 8124-3Migration of certain elements (toxic content)
  • AS/NZS 62115Safety of electric toys
  • ACCC Info Std. 2020Consumer Goods (Products Containing Button/Coin Cell Batteries) Information Standard
  • ACCC Safety Std. 2020Consumer Goods (Products Containing Button/Coin Cell Batteries) Safety Standard

Why 0 to 36 months specifically

Australia's Consumer Goods (Products Containing Button/Coin Cell Batteries) Safety Standard 2020 — Section 12 — modifies the way age groupings are applied to toy testing under the Australian/New Zealand Standard. This modification establishes that the relevant age range for our category is up to and including 36 months. We follow this scope precisely. That's why Huggu is tested and labelled for the 0–36 month range only — not "and above," not "+", not extended into older age brackets that would require separate testing.

12   Australian/New Zealand Standard — modifications to testing standards

(1)  For the purposes of section 10, the Australian/New Zealand Standard is taken to be modified as set out in this section.

(2)  Clause 5.1 of the Australian/New Zealand Standard is modified by:

  • (a)  omitting “from 18 months and over but under 36 months” and substituting “from 18 months up to and including 36 months”; and
  • (b)  omitting “36 months and over but under 96 months”; and
  • (c)  omitting “intended or appropriate for children under 96 months” and substituting “appropriate for children up to and including 36 months of age”; and
  • (d)  omitting “intended” wherever occurring.

Cleaning & care

Surface-clean only. No machine wash.

Huggu can be gently surface-cleaned with a damp cloth between uses.

Step 1: Remove the motor unit and remote before cleaning

The motor unit is accessed via a hidden zipper on the underside of the right palm. Gently unzip, lift the motor unit out, and place aside out of reach of children. The remote control is separate and must be kept out of reach of children at all times.

Step 2: Surface-wash only

Use a clean microfibre cloth dampened with cool water and a mild, fragrance-free detergent. Wipe in long, gentle strokes.

✓ Do

  • Surface wash with damp cloth only
  • Air dry naturally in a warm, dry place
  • Allow 24–48 hours to dry fully before re-inserting the motor unit

✗ Do not

  • Machine wash
  • Tumble dry
  • Iron
  • Bleach
  • Soak or submerge in water
  • Use scented or harsh cleaning agents
  • Open the motor unit (sealed lithium battery inside)

Step 3: Reassemble

Once the plush is fully dry, insert the motor unit back into the palm via the hidden zipper. Close the zipper carefully.

Charging

Charge with Huggu separated from your child.

  1. Locate the USB-C charging port on the underside of the right palm — accessible through the hidden zipper.
  2. Connect the supplied USB-C cable to the port.
  3. Plug the other end into any standard USB power source (a 5V / 1A or 5V / 2A USB plug adapter).
  4. A red light on the motor unit indicates charging in progress; the light turns off when fully charged.
  5. A full charge takes approximately 80 minutes.
  6. Never leave Huggu unattended while charging.
